Shared history, new beginning – passing the baton at EHI

EuroShop is inseparably linked with the EHI Retail Institute. Back in 1966, the courage was there to jointly launch a new retail trade fair. Ever since, EHI has accompanied EuroShop as its institutional patron.

Michael Gerling was not yet part of this beginning in 1966, but he has nevertheless been part of EHI for 35 years – 26 of them as managing director. Few people know the retail industry as well as Michael. He has not only accompanied its development, but has observed it critically and helped shape it.

After this long and successful period, a handover is now taking place in EHI’s management: Ulrich Spaan is taking up the baton, while Michael Gerling will continue to support the transition until the end of March. My good friend Uli also knows the retail industry like the back of his hand. We have shared many great experiences over the years, not least on our EuroShop Tours around the world.

I wish Uli every success and plenty of tailwind for all that he sets out to do, and I look forward to continuing our close cooperation. And Michael: thank you for the trusting collaboration and the open, intelligent exchange over so many years.
